Kim Kardashian may not be the first celebrity to buy her own engagement ring, if the rumors are true. Jessica Simpson recently bought her own engagement ring because her fiance couldn't afford the tag price. Actually, their fiances may have bought a ring but it may not be the one they show as their engagement ring.

Kim Kardashian's engagement ring is the same ring that she took as payment for her promotional work with L.A. Jewellers. Media Takeout has photo analysis that compares the two ring, one that she recieved as payment and other one that she is claiming to be the engagement ring. The ring does look similar and maybe the same. Kim did promotional work for L.A. Jeweller in 2009 when she was hot and heavy with Reggie Bush. It is speculated, Kim took the ring as payment to pressurize Reggie into marrying her. If the engagement ring that she is wearing today is the same as she had it in 2009, it can be speculated Kim and Reggie were closer to tying the knot. Both the rings (now and from 2009) feature an emerald-cut diamond as a center stone, and are flanked with two trapezoid cut stones on each side of the center stone.

In the fair market, Kim Kardashian's engagement ring would cost over $2 million dollars. Kris Humphries salary is $3.2 million which when adjusted for income tax would result in roughly $2 million. If Kris did indeed bought the ring, he would have invested all his earnings for this year in the ring. Well it is possible that it can be done, its highly unlikely Kris would have done that as he will have other bills to pay for. Assuming Kim actually supplied the ring, this may point to trouble in the romance. Kim lives queen size life and to support her lavish life, Kris's income may fall short.

Jessica Simpson is rumored to have purchased her own engagement ring, according to Hollywood Gossip. When she got engaged to Eric Johnson, the former pro-football player, rumors suggested that Jessica paid for her own ring because Eric could have afforded $100,000 ring.

Does it really matter whether Kim and not Kris bought the ring as long as it is a token of love and a promise?
